This is the final installment of my review on Expo East. The Natural Products Expo East is a international gathering of the top manufactures, retails, educators, and distributors in the natural health industry. There are two expos, East and West. East is in Baltimore and is about 50,000 people, where West is in Los Angeles and is well over 110,000 people now.
I get to see so many new products and concepts at these events. It really is hard to condense everything down into just 7 or 8 blogs. Much of the products are easily categorized, but the following could fit in several places. I couldn't just not talk about them, because they really made an impact on my experience, too. Because these are more random, they aren't listed in any particular order. Enjoy.
As a raw food fanatic, I love veggie noodle. If you'd ever made them, then you know that it takes time to prep and clean up. Not real difficult or time consuming, but still more than I care to spend some days.
Well these folks have a solution. Prepackaged veggie noodles in a clam shell container. They are ready to eat right from the package. You could take them out and saute them or just add some sauce to them and eat them straight from the container on the go.
They come in four varieties. There is Zucchini, Sweet Potato, Butternut Squash, and Beets. They are all Organic, Non GMO, Raw, Vegan, and Gluten Free. The only hitch is that they have a 12-day shelf life, so eat them quick.
Organic Gemini - TigerNut
I got really excited when I found these folks. I had never heard of their TigerNut products even though my local store already stocked some of their products. My main reason for being excited was the Raw Granola. It comes in two tasty flavors; Apple Cinnamon and Banana Cacao. They have several other products that are vegan, but only a few that are raw. Everything I tried was great.
So just what is a Tigernut you're thinking? Tigernuts are actually not a nut. They are a small root vegetable similar to a potato that comprised about 80% of our Paleo ancestors' diet two million years ago. This superfood is rich in prebiotic fiber that resists digestion and feeds our probiotic bacteria further building our immune system. Tigernuts also offer 40% of your daily iron in just a quarter cup serving.
Best part of their products is that pretty much everyone can eat them. Everything is at least Organic, Non GMO, Paleo, Vegan, Kosher, Nut Free, & Gluten Free. Many of the items are also Raw and have no added sugar. Believe it or not, this stuff tastes amazing too.
Blu Apple - Veggie Zips with Hydro Liners
When I stopped to talk to the people at this table, I thought, "What a silly product." Upon the first look, it appears to be a zip lock bag with a paper towel in it. They tried to convince me that it would somehow keep my produce fresh. I smiled and took their free sample box with two bags in it.
When I got home, I nearly threw them away. Then I realized I was out of plastic bags and had some roma tomatoes from my garden that needed to go in the fridge. I knew I wouldn't be using the romas for a while, so I figured I'd try out these fancy new bags.
Well much to my amazement, those tomatoes stayed fresh in my refrigerator for nearly a month. As I pulled them out, I was shocked to realize that they looked exactly the same as when I had put them into the fridge. Even the bad spots on them that should have caused them to rot really fast hadn't changed a bit.
These bags absolutely are new fancy technology that you should try out. Especially try them if you eat a lot of produce and have trouble using it all before it goes bad. The specially designed U-vents in the bag controls humidity while the HydroLiner controls moisture. They are reusable, but I will be throwing mine away if the liner gets gross. However, I've used one of them for mushrooms, tomatoes, and bell peppers without any issue so far. Perhaps you can clean the bag out but the liner I'm not so sure about. Perhaps when the product is officially launched, we'll get more info.
*Note - Their website doesn't yet mention this product. I'm sure they will be released soon.
This is a new favorite company for me. They have their whole product line based around apricot seeds (kernals). They have really quality, bitter seeds, too. As I usually tell customers at the Good Earth Natural Market, "Bitter is Better". The more bitter the seed the more active components it has.
A couple products to mention are the capsules they have available. There are ground up apricot seeds in capsules. They pack two seeds in every capsule. Then they have vitamin B17 capsules as well as vitamin B15 capsules. Then there is also some raw vegan fruit bars with apricot seeds in them.
They have many other great products, so you should visit their website.
So why apricot seeds and what is B17? B17 is a semi famous vitamin in the "underground" natural cancer treatment world. It is most abundant in apricot seeds, but can be found in many seeds including apples and grapes. It works, basically, because it is a natural form of cyanide bonded to a type of sugar that our body doesn't use. Therefore in a healthy body, this combo passes through without a problem. However, cancer cells love sugar in all forms. That cancer cell sucks up the cyanide/sugar combo, eats the sugar, and is left with a small amount of cyanide that kills that cell. This is a very simple way to explain, so I suggest you Watch this video for a better explanation. It's one of my favorites.
*Note - Often this remedy is claimed ineffective or even poisonous, but I have met several folks with great success stories using apricot seeds (also called apricot kernals). I have never heard any of these folks claim any ill side effects. I myself eat them quite often as a prevention method and have never noticed any unfavorable effects. They just taste and react in my body like almonds. I realize that this may be strange info for some people, so if you have questions please watch the video "World Without Cancer". Otherwise, call me and ask me.
I'm guessing most of the people who read this aren't really olive oil connoisseurs, but there is such a thing and I'm kind of one. This particular olive oil line is by far the best I've ever tried.
Olive oil is just olive oil right? Wrong. Most people actually have no idea what real olive oil tastes like. Most of what is is sold in stores (including health food stores) and used in restaurants is a blend of other cheaper oils. If it is a real olive oil, then the chances are good that it's rancid. A good olive oil should at least be grown, pressed and bottled in the same area. Often olives are grown say in Greece, then pressed in Italy or China, then shipped to America for bottling and distribution. No oil has any chance of being healthful with that much exposure time to the air. I'm not even going to go over the possibilities of temperature changes and light exposure. If you have an observant pallet and try quality olive oil, you totally know what I mean.
Good quality olive oil is extremely good for the body and can provide most of the nutrients that body requires. Any rancid oil (many of them) actually creates free radical stress on the body which wears and tears on the body.
This company has not only the best tasting olive oil on the market, but they also have the most beneficial olive oil on the market. The Olive Plus 30X has 30 times the polyphenols of regular quality olive oils. These polyphenols help prevent strokes, hypertension, ageing, cancer, psoriasis, high cholesterol, and much more. They also have various olive supplements.
For all of you olive oil snobs out there, you MUST try this product. Unfortunately, for all of us in the USA, this product isn't available yet. I sure hope that changes soon.
This unique company produces a few products I had never seen or heard of before. They have the maple syrups and maple water, but have you ever heard of maple vinegar or maple cream? Oh my goodness.
With the maple vinegar, they ferment the Vermont maple sap in Napa Valley wine barrels to produce a flavor somewhere between maple syrup and apple cider vinegar. Trust me it tastes way better than it sounds, and to me it even sounds good.
Maple cream is a maple syrup that goes through a second "steam-crafting" process to make a smooth, soft, spreadable butter like product. I can imagine many ways to use this product in raw vegan recipes. For one it would be a great base for icing on holiday cookies. I just may release a recipe I've been working on sometime soon. Wink, wink.
Both of these items are raw and vegan as well as certified organic. I haven't found them in any stores yet, but with these tasty products it won't be long.
This company isn't new, but they are raw, vegan, and amazing. Evergreen Juices have been producing wheat grass for well over a decade and have a unique method for their juice.
They grow all of their wheat grass outdoors in actual dirt and sunlight. Everyone else I know of grows their indoors in trays which may be more efficient, but produces an inferior product. Unsprouted wheat berries often mold and infect the surrounding blades of wheat grass. This mold doesn't wash off easily and may be a problem for many folks who are sensitive to molds.
Because they grow in the outdoor sunshine, Evergreen wheat grass doesn't have mold issues. The sun is one of two things that actually kills mold. The other is cold. So they not only grow in the sun, but plant in the fall and harvest in the spring. This produces the cleanest and safest wheat grass juice on the market. Check out this interview with Carol from Evergreen.
You can find Evergreen Juices in the freezer section of most health food stores.
I hope you enjoyed my series of product reviews from Expo East 2016. I will be doing this again for Expo West starting in March 2017, so be looking for that. If you missed any parts of this series click here to go back and read the others.
Next week I'll be covering my trip to the Nature's Answer facility and review some of their amazing products.
